3 things to know about Google carousel results

Sample Google carousel style local search results

A few months ago, we started seeing a different type of local search results from Google, featuring a carousel with images (as shown above). Here are three things you need to know about these new search results:

1. Hundreds of search terms trigger them

Over 300 search terms trigger these results, but they tend to come up more for restaurants, hotels, nightlife and attractions than other business types, although I expect we will see them expand this.

2. Images affect click-thru rate

A good image can make a huge difference in how many clicks you get. Google pulls most images fromĀ your Google business page, but they will occasionally use others from around the Web. Make sure only your best photos are posted online.

3. Carousel ranking factors

Many things affect your ranking here, including frequency of search for your business name, freshness of user reviews, the number of images, inside views, and whether or not your business is locally owned or part of a chain.
